Active substance: Cetirizine HCl

Pharmacological effects: Cetirizine is a competitive antagonist of histamine, which works by blocking H1-histamine receptors, thus relieving the allergic symptoms and preventing their development. The drug also expresses antipruritic and antiexudative effects. Cetirizine affects the primary histamine-dependent stage of the allergic reaction as well as release of the inflammatory mediators on the later stages of the allergic reaction, constricts the migration of eosinophils, neutrophils, basophils and stabilizes the membrane of the mast cells. Decreases the permeability of the capillary walls thus preventing the swelling. The drug also lessens bronchial-constriction in mild bronchial asthma. Cetirizine HCl has nearly no anticholinergic and anti-serotonine effect.

Indications: The drug is indicated in treatmen of adults and children older the 6 years for the following conditions:

• Whole-year or seasonal allergic rhinitis
• Allergic conjunctivitis
• Allergic hives, chronic idiopathic hives
• Quincke's oedema
• Allergic dermatoses
• Atopic dermatitis

Warnings and Precautions: The drugs should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Pregnancy
• Lactation
• The drug should not be used in children younger then 6 months

The drug should be used with caution in the fillowing:

• Chronic renal failure
• Elderly age
