Therapeutic actions: Sorbifer durules contains 2 active ingredients ferrous sulfate and ascorbic acid.
Ferum(iron) is essential compound of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a pigment of red blood cells that is important in transporting oxygen to the body cells. Iron is also a component of myoglobin that is oxygen-carrying protein of the muscles and heart tissue. Myoglobin stores oxygen while physical exercises.
Durules technology provides stepped releasing ferrous sulfate for a long period of time.
Vitamin C(acid ascorbic) is important in clotting of the blood, regulation of the oxidation-reduction processes, carbohydrate metabolism, regeneration of the tissues, hormones production and normalization of the capillary permeability.

Indications: Sorbifer durules is used:

  • In iron deficiency anemia
  • Conditions manifested with iron deficiency
  • As a prophylactic remedy in breastfeeding, pregnancy, blood donors

Contraindications and cautions:
You should not take Sorbifer if any of the following conditions apply to you:

  • Increased sensitivity or allergy to Ferrous sulfate and ascorbic acid or other components used to make Sorbifer durules
  • Stenosis of the esophagus or/and obstructive changes of the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Increased amount of iron in the organism(hemosiderosis, hemochromatosis)
  • Disorders of the iron utilization(lead anemia, sideroblastic anemia, hemolytic anemia)
  • Children under 12 years of age

Sorbefer should be used with caution in:

  • Stomach and intestinal ulcer
  • Inflammatory processes of the bowel(ulcerative colitis, enteritis, diverticulitis, Crohn's disease).
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Sorbifer will experience it or any other.
The most common side effects include: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation. Gullet ulceration and stenosis, skin allergic reactions(itching, rash), hyperthermia of the skin, headache, dizziness, weakness are also observed in rare cases.

Antacids reduce the absorption of ferrous sulfate. Do not use Sorbifer durules within 3 hours after the application of the mentioned above medicines.
Sorbifer durules should not be used in conjunction with ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin and ofloxacin.
