Active substance: Levamisole

Pharmacological effects:

Generic Ergamisol causes the membrane's depolarization of the helminth muscles. Ergamisol works by blocking succinate dehydrogenase and inhibiting fumarate reductase. These enzymes are responsible for the bioenergetic processes in the worms. Ergamisol also possesses  immunomodulatory action: enhances the response of the organism to different foreign substances. Immunomodulatory action is associated with activation of T-cell and proliferation stimulation. Levamisol also enhances the function of monocytes, macrophages and neutrophils functions.

Indications: Generic Ergamisol is used for the treatment of the following diseases:

• Ascariasis
• Ankylostomiasis
• Necatoriasis
• Strongyloidosis
• Trichostrongylosis
• Whip-worm infection
• Toxoplasmosis
• Enterobiasis

Warnings and Precautions: Levamisol should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Pregnancy, lactation period
• Agranulocytosis caused by medications taking.
• Child age (up to age 14)
• Liver or kidney dysfunction
• Inhibition marrowy blood formation
• Cerebrovascular insufficiency
• Acute leukemia

Ergamisol side effects: Drugs may cause side effects which in specific patients may manifest differently. In the following paragraph we want to underline the most serious and frequent side effect of Generic Ergamisol that  were identified by the drug manufacturers. The possibility of the adverse effect manifestation depends only on the individual and his specific traits. Levamisole side effects include:

• Gastrointestinal system: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomachache, pancreatitis,increase of alkaline phosphatase activity, mouth mucosal ulceration
• Central nervous system: headache, paresthesia, peripheral polyneuropathy, generalized convulsion, encephalitis-like syndrome, speech disorders, fatigue, sleeping disorders, tremor, confused mental state, ataxia
• Hematopoietic system: leukopenia, agranulocytosis
• Urinary system: kidney failure, hypercreatinemia
• Allergic reactions: skin rash, dermatitis
• Other: drop in blood pressure, periorbital edema, myasthenia, iridocyclitis, lymphoadenopathy
