Drug name:  Generic Flagyl

Active substance: Metronidazole

Pharmacological effects: Generic Flagyl is an antiprotozoal and antibacterial drug, a derivative of 5-nitroimidazole. The action mechanism of the medication consists in biochemical reduction of 5-nitrogroup  by intracellular proteins of the anaerobic microorganisms and protozoas. Generic Flagyl is active against  Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica, Gardnerella vaginalis, Giardia intestinalis, Lamblia, strict anaerobes and some gram-positive microorganisms. Metronidazole does not affect aerobic microorganisms and facultative anaerobes. Generic Flagyl increases the sensibility of tumors to ray treatment, causes disulfiram-like reactions, stimulates reparative processes.

Warnings and Precautions: Metronidazole  should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Leukopenia
• Central nervous system organic lesion
• Liver problems
• Pregnancy, lactation period
• Renal insufficiency

Flagyl side effects: Drugs may cause side-effects which in specific patients may manifest differently. • Gastrointestinal system: diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, intestinal colic, constipation, xerostomia, glossitis, stomatitis, pancreatitis
• Central nervous system: dizziness, ataxia, confused mental state, irritation, depression, hyperexcitement, weakness, insomnia, headaches, convulsions, hallucinations
• Allergic reactions: hives, skin rash, skin hyperemia, stuffiness in nose, fever, arthralgias
• Urinary system: dysuria, cystitis, polyuria, uroclepsia
• Local reactions: thrombophlebitis
• Other: neutropenia, leucopenia
