Pharmacological effects:

Bicillin-3 and Bicillin-5 are combined antibacterial preparations with prolonged action. Action mechanism is associated with inhibiting the synthesis of peptidoglycan mucopeptide of cellular wall. This leads to inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cellular wall, suppression the growth and replication of microorganisms.

Bicillin is effective against a wide variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Bacteria that produces penicillinase are resistant to Bicillin. Viruses, fungi, protozoa are also not sensitive to Bicillin.

Indications:

Bicillin-3 and Bicillin-5 are indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible to the medication microorganisms including:

• Syphilis
• Zymotic papilloma (frambesia)
• Streptococcal infections (acute tonsillitis, scarlet fever, wound infections, erysipelas), for the exceptions of infections caused by streptococcus group B)
• Rheumatism prophylaxis
• Leishmaniasis

Warnings and Precautions: The drugs should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Bronchial asthma
• Hay fever
• Other allergic reactions
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding

Bicillin is used only in the form of intramuscular injections

Side effects: Drugs may cause side-effects which in specific patients may manifest differently. In the following paragraph we want to underline the most serious and frequent side effect of Bicillin that were identified by the drug manufacturers. The possibility of the adverse effect manifestation depends only on the individual and his specific traits. Bicillin side effects include:

• Allergic reactions: hives, angioedema, erythema multiforme, anaphylactic shock, arthralgia, fever, exfoliative edema
• Digestive system: stomatitis, glossitis
• Hematopoietic system: anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, hypocoagulation
• Other: in prolonged use superinfection, mycosis
