Active substance: cephalexin

Pharmacological effects: Cephalexin is a first generation cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal properties. Bactericidal effect is associated with inactivating the effects of peptidglycane that is responsible for the production of structural proteins of the bacteria cell wall. Without cell wall microorganisms remain defenseless and are not able to maintain their life-sustaining activity any more. Cephalexin possesses a narrow spectrum action and does not act on the majority of gram negative microorganisms.

Indications: Cephalexin is approved infectious diseases caused by susceptible to the medication bacteria. Cephalexin uses include:

• Bacterial infections treatment:
• Infections of the respiratory system
• Infections of the bones called osteomyelitis
• Infection that affect middle ear(otitis media)
• Inflammation of the prostate gland of a bacterial origin
• Sinusitis
• Infections of the skin and soft tissue

Cephalexin is not approved to treat viral infections

Warnings and Precautions: The drug should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Known allergy to beta-lactam antibiotics
• Severe liver and kidney diseases
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding
• Will be having surgical intervention
• Pseudomembranous colitis in anamnesis
• Children under 3 year of age

Cephalexin taking increases the risk of vaginal candida infection(vaginal thrush)

Cephalexin side effects: Drugs may cause side effects which in specific patients may manifest differently.
