Active substance: Ciprofloxacin

Pharmacological effects: Cipro or ciprofloxacin is in a group of antibiotics called fluoroquinolone.

Cipro is a broad spectrum antibiotic with bactericidal properties. Cipro is effective against bacteria resistant to penicillin and cephalosporin type antibiotics. Bactericidal action of Cipro is related to inhibiting the enzyme DNA-gyrase. This enzyme is responsible for the DNA replication of the bacterial cell. As a result, bacteria can not multiply and repair themselves and then perish.

Indications: Cirpo is approved to treat infections caused by susceptible to ciprofloxacin infections:

  • Upper and lower respiratory system infections
  • Ear, nose and throat infection
  • Infections that affect eyes
  • Urinary system infections
  • Bacterial infections of the prostate gland
  • Bacterial infections of the abdominal cavity
  • Infections of the gastrointestinal tract
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease
  • Blood infection
  • Gonorrhea

In children Cirpo may be indicated in:

  • Urinary system infections
  • Lung infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Prevention and treatment of anthrax

Cipro is not approved to treat viral infections

Warnings and Precautions: Cipro should not be used in the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity or allergy to any components of the preparation.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • History of tendon disease
  • Severe liver and kidney disease
  • Children and adolescent age
  • Elderly age
