Drug name: Generic Zithromax

Active substance: Azithromycin

Pharmacological effects: Zithromax is a broad spectrum macrolide antibiotic with bacteriostatic properties. Therapeutic effect of Zithromax is related to inhibiting the certain enzyme(peptidetranslocase). This enzyme is responsible for the production of proteins in the bacterial cell. As a result microorganisms are not able to multiply and then die. In high doses Zithromax may exert bactericidal action. Zithromax acts both on gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, including anaerobic bacteria, spirochaetes, mycobacteria.

Indications: Zithromax is approved to treat infectious diseases caused by sensitive to Azithromycin microorganisms. Zithromax drug uses include:

Bacterial infection treatment:

• Infections of the respiratory system such as bronchitis
• ENT infections(otitis media, tonsillitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis)
• Pneumonia
• Infections that affect skin such as impetigo, folliculitis, cellulitis
• Pelvic inflammatory disease
• Urinary system infections

Treatment of sexually transmitted diseases:

• Chlamydia
• Chancroid(soft chancre)
• Gonorrhea

Zithromax is not licensed to treat viral infections.

Warnings and Precautions: Zithromax should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity or allergy to any components of the preparations.
• Liver dysfunction
• Kidney dysfunction
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding
• Diarrhea associated with antibiotic therapy
• Severe heart disease
• Vaginal yeast infections

You should take Zithromax exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking medicine earlier on your own initiative without consulting your doctor.

Zithromax may cause acute colitis. Seek medical attention if you noticed the first signs associated with colitis: diarrhea and abdominal pain.
