Drug name: Generic Biaxin

Active substance: clarithromycin

Pharmacological effects: Biaxin belongs to a class of antibacterial preparations called macrolide. Biaxin is a bacteriostatic antibiotic that is effective against a wide variety of bacteria. Therapeutic effect of Biaxin is associated with inhibiting the production of proteins essential for the bacterial growth and multiplication. In high doses Biaxin possesses bactericidal action. Biaxin acts on gram positive, gram negative bacteria, aerobic microorganisms, mycoplasms.

Indications: Biaxin is approved for treating the following bacterial infections:

• Lower and upper respiratory system infections(bronchitis, pneumonia)
• Infection associated with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) (duodenal ulcers)
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Sinusitis and step throat
• Infections associated Mycobacterium avium and is more common in patients with AIDS

Warnings and Precautions: The drug should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation.
• Kidney dysfunction(kidney failure)
• Decreased liver function(liver failure)
• Abnormal heart rhythm also known as arrhythmia
• Porphyria
• Pregnancy
• Lactation
• Vaginal yeast infection
• History of watery and bloody diarrhea
