Drug name: Ofloxacin

Pharmacological effects: Ofloxacin belongs to a group of antibacterial medicines called quinolones. Ofloxacin exerts bactericidal action by inhibiting bacterial growth and multiplication. Ofloxacin inactivates the enzyme DNA-gyrase responsible for the replication of bacterial genetic material. As a result, bacteria loose their ability to replicate or repair themselves and then die. Ofloxacin exerts a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against a wide variety of microorganisms.

Indications: The medication is indicated in infectious diseases caused by sensitive to ofloxacin microorganisms. Ofloxacin uses include:

• Bacterial infection of the urinary system
• Bacterial infections of the upper and lower respiratory system
• Bacterial infections that affect soft tissue and lung
• Sexually transmitted infections(gonorrhea)
• Infections that affect cervix or urethra
• Bacterial infections of the blood
• Bones and joints infections

Warnings and Precautions: The drugs should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation or other quinolones antibiotics
• Epilepsy
• Any CNS(central nervous system) disorders manifested with seizures
• Children less than 18 years of age
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding
• Deficiency of G6PD in the blood

You should inform your doctor if any of these conditions apply to you:

• Kidney or liver dysfunctions
• History of seizures or mental disorders
• Elderly age

Ofloxacin may make your skin more sensitive to UV light. Try to avoid direct sunlight while the therapy with Ofloxacin.

• Avoid alcoholic beverages
• Do not drive or operate any machinery
