Drug name: Generic Prozac

Active substance: fluoxetine hydrochloride

Pharmacological effects:

Prozac contains the active ingredient fluoxetine hydrochloride that belongs to a group of anti-depression medications called serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Prozac helps to relieve and eliminate depression symptoms via increasing the amount of serotonin in the synaptic gap between nerve cells. Serotonin is neurotransmitter that transfers messages from one nerve cell to another.  Deficiency of serotonin is usually associated with the main cause of depression and other mental problems.

Indications: Generic Prozac is approved for the treatment of the following conditions:

• Depression
• Obsessive-compulsive disorders
• Panic disorders
• Bulimia

Warnings and Precautions: Generic Prozac should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Bipolar disorders
• Recent heart attacks
• Severe liver and kidney diseases
• Epilepsy and seizures
• Suicidal thoughts or attempts
• Diabetes
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding
