Drug name: Generic Diflucan

Active substance: Fluconazol

Pharmacological effects: Fluconazol is an anti-fungal drug which exerts highly specific effect by inhibiting the fungal enzymes activity which depends on the cytochrome P450. The drug blocks the formation of ergosterol from lanosterol, increases the permeability of the fungal cellular wall, affects its growth and replication. Fluconazol specifically effects cytochrome P450 of the fungi and does not affect the same enzymes in the human body. The drug does not possess antiandrogenic activity.

Indications: Generic Diflucan is indicated in treatment of the following disease:

• Systemic change caused by Cryptococcus infection including meningitis, sepsis, lung and skin infections in patients with normal immune response and in patients with compromised immune system.
• Generalized candidosis, candidemia, disseminated candidiasis
• Mucous membrane candidosis: oral cavity, larynx, gullet, noninvasive bronchopulmonary candidiosis candiduria, slin-mucousal and chronic peroral atrofic candidosis.
• Genital candidosis, balanitis.
• Prophylaxis of mycotic infections
• Skin mycoses
• Severe endemic mycoses

Warnings and Precautions: The drugs should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.

Generic Diflucan should be used with caution in such cnditions:

• Liver and renal failure
• Alcoholism
• Pregnancy
• Lactation period
• Young age under 6 months.

Untimely stop of the preparation may cause remissions. During treatment haematological parameters liver and renal fucntion should be monitored. Hepatotoxic effect of fluconazol may be reversed and in most cases disappears after the therapy is stopped.

Side effects: Drugs may cause side-effects which in specific patients may manifest differently. • Gastrointestinal tract: decreased appetite, nausea, constipation or diarrhea, meteorism, stomach pain, tooth pain, liver failure, jaundice.
• CNS: Headaches, dizziness, increased fatigability, seizures
• Haemopoietic organs: leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis
• Allergic reactions
• Others: Renal dysfunction, alopecia, hypokaliemia, hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia
