Active substance: Ketoconazole

Pharmacological effects: Ketoconazole is an antifungal drug which possesses activity in treatment of dermathophyte, yeast fungus, dimorphous fungi and eumycetes. The drug has also proven its efficacy in treatment of staphylococci and streptococci. Ketokonazole works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, which is used in the fungal cell for the formation of the cellular wall, thus affecting its permeability and in the end leading to fungal cell death.

Indications: The drug is indicated in treatment of:

• Fungal infections of the gastrointestinal tract, eye, genitals
• Chronic recurring vaginal candidiasis
• Dermatomycosis
• Onychomycosis
• Candidosis
• Folliculitis
• Trichophytia
• Systemic fungal infections
• Leishmaniasis

• Prophylaxis of fungal infections in patients predisposed to them
• Prostate cancer as subsidiary therapy in high doses
• Kashin-Beck disease

Warnings and Precautions: The drugs should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Pregnancy
• Lactation period

The drug should be used with caution in:

• Liver and renal failure
• Alcoholism
• Achlohydria
• Hypochlorhydria
• Young age under 2 years
