Drug name: Brand Zovirax

Active substance: Acyclovir

Pharmacological effects: Zovirax contains the ingredient Acyclovir that is a synthetic analogue of purine nucleoside. Zovirax inhibits in vitro and in vivo herpes viruses, including herpes type 1 and 2, shingles and chickenpox. Zovirax fits into viral DNA and disturbs viral replication. As a result viruses are not able to grow and reproduce themselves.

Indications: Zovirax is licensed to treat viral infections caused by: Chickenpox (varicella zoster infection)

• Herpes Zoster
• Herpes virus type 1 and 2 including Genital herpes

Zovirax can also be indicated as a prophylactic remedy in patients with a weaken immune system

Warnings and Precautions: Zovirax should not be used in the following conditions:

• Allergy to any of the medication ingredient

Talk with your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding. Zovirax is a pregnancy category B meaning that is safe during pregnancy.

Acyclovir should be taken with caution in patients with

• Kidney disorders
• Elderly patients

While the treatment it's recommended to drink a plenty of fluids and avoid sexual contact.
