Pharmacological effects:

Generic Flovent rotahaler is a glucocorticoid medication for inhalation use. The drug has marked anti-inflammatory and antiallergic properties.

The active substance of the drug, fluticasone proprionate, inhibits proliferation of mast cells, eosinophils, lymphocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, reduces production and release of inflammatory mediators and other biologically active substances (histamine, PG, leukotrienes, cytokines).

Indications:

• bronchial asthma (basic anti-inflammatory therapy) in adults and children (including those with severe disease, with dependence on systemic corticosteroids)
• chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in adults

Warnings and Precautions: The drugs should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• acute bronchospasm
• asthmatic status
• bronchitis of non-asthmatic nature
• children below 1 y.o.

Use the drug with caution in:

• liver cirrhosis
• glaucoma
• hypothyroidism
• systemic infections (bacterial, fungal, parasitic, viral)
• osteoporosis
• pulmonary tuberculosis
• pregnancy and lactation

Side effects: Drugs may cause side-effects which in specific patients may manifest differently. In the following paragraph we want to underline the most serious and frequent side effect of fluticasone propionate that were identified by the drug manufacturers. The possibility of the adverse effect manifestation depends only on the individual and his specific traits. Generic Flovent rotahaler side effects include:

• candidiasis of the mouth and throat
• hoarseness
• paradoxical bronchospasm
• allergic reactions:skin rash, angioedema, dyspnea, bronchospasm, anaphylactic reactions
• rare: osteoporosis, growth retardation in children, cataract, increased intraocular pressure
