Pharmacological effects:

Beclomethasone dipropionate is a glucocorticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antiallergic and immunosuppressive effects. The drug inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators from mast cells, increases production of lipomodulin that is an inhibitor of phospholipase A, reduces the release of arachidonic acid, inhibits the synthesis of metabolic products of arachidonic acid. Generic Qvar reduces swelling and secretions of glands of the nasal mucosa, and improves mucociliary transport.

Indications:

• Bronchial asthma
• chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
• allergic rhinitis (seasonal and permanent), vasomotor rhinitis
• recurrent polyposis of the nose
• juvenile rheumatoid arthritis
• inflammatory bowel disease
• dysphonia in systemic lupus erythematosus
• persistent otitis media in children
• bronchopulmonary dysplasia in infants

Warnings and Precautions: The drugs should not be used in the following conditions:

• hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• I trimester of pregnancy, breastfeeding

Restrictions apply to:

• systemic infections
• tuberculosis
• herpetic eye disease
• II and III trimester of pregnancy

Side effects: Drugs may cause side-effects which in specific patients may manifest differently. In the following paragraph we want to underline the most serious and frequent side effect of Beclomethasone Dipropionate that were identified by the drug manufacturers. The possibility of the adverse effect manifestation depends only on the individual and his specific traits. Generic Qvar side effects include:

• hoarseness, tickly throat
• sneezing, rhinorrhea, dryness and irritation in the nose
• nasal bleeding, atrophic rhinitis, ulceration of the nasal mucosa
• perforation of the nasal septum
• headaches, dizziness
• cataract, increased intraocular pressure
• leukocytosis, lymphopenia, eosinopenia
• manifestations of hypercorticoidism, including Cushing's syndrome (at high doses)
• oropharyngeal candidiasis and aspergillosis, nasal candidiasis
• eosinophilic pneumonia
• urticaria, angioedema
