Pharmacological effects:

Generic Serevent is a bronchodilating agent that stimulates beta2-adrenergic receptors. Salmeterol, the active substance of Generic Serevent, inhibits the release of mast cells mediators of histamine in tissues, leukotrienes and PGE2. The drug inhibits early and late stages of allergic reaction. Salmeterol also increases the frequency of movement of cilia of ciliated epithelium, improves mucociliary clearance, reduces damage to the epithelium of the respiratory tract caused by Haemophilus influenzae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as antineutrophill activity and the ability to reduce swelling of the mucous membrane.

Indications:

• bronchial asthma in adults and children over 4 years
• chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) including chronic obstructive bronchitis and emphysema

Warnings and Precautions: The drugs should not be used in the following conditions:

• hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• children aged below 4
• pregnancy, breastfeeding

Side effects: Drugs may cause side-effects which in specific patients may manifest differently. In the following paragraph we want to underline the most serious and frequent side effect of Salmeterol that were identified by the drug manufacturers. The possibility of the adverse effect manifestation depends only on the individual and his specific traits. Generic Serevent side effects include:

• Headache, tremor, cramps
• Hypokalemia, palpitations
• Paradoxical bronchospasm
• Sore joints
• Allergic reactions: itching, hives, swelling of eyelids, lips, face, oral mucosa and / or larynx
