Drug name: Brand Fervex

Active substance: Paracetamol(acetominophen), ascorbic acid and Pheniramine

Pharmacological effects:

Fervex contains a combination of  paracetamol(acetominophen), ascorbic acid and pheniramine. Acetaminophen exerts analgesic and antipyretic action. It works by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase and thus prevents the production of inflammatory mediators in the central nervous system(CNS).  Pheniramine belongs to a group of medicines called H1-histamine receptor blockers.  Pheniramine helps to decrease rhinorrhea and lacromation, eliminates spastic manifestations. Ascorbic acid participates on many redox processes, carbohydrate's metabolism, blood coagulation, tissue regeneration, synthesis of steroidal hormones. Ascorbic acid also decreases vascular permeability, decreases the demand of the organism in vitamins  B1, B2, А, Е, folic acid, panthothenic acid.

Indications: Fervex is approved for the treatment of the following conditions:

• Symptomatic treatment of the acute respiratory viral infections
• Allergic rhinitis
• Rhinopharyngitis
• Pain syndrome of light and moderate intensity: arthralgia, neuralgia, migraines, tooth and headache, algodismenorrhea, pain in traumas and burns

Warnings and Precautions: Fervex should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Chronic alcoholism
• Kidney and liver failure
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding
• Deficiency of G6PD(glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase)
• Constitutional hyperbilirubinemia(Gilbert's disease)
• Children under 15 years of age(for Ferver adults) and children under 6 years of age(for Fervex children)
• Closed angle glaucoma
• Prostate gland disease

Fervex side effects: Drugs may cause side effects which in specific patients may manifest differently. In the following paragraph we want to underline the most serious and frequent side effect of Fervex that  were identified by the drug manufacturers. The possibility of the adverse effect manifestation depends only on the individual and his specific traits.

• Fervex side effects include: allergic reactions (skin rash, itching, hives and Quinke's edema), nausea, stomach pain, changes in blood cells counts, dry mouth, accommodation paresis, urine retention, drowsiness. In prolonged use hepatotoxic effects, hemolytic anemia, aplastic anemia, methemoglobinemia, pancytopenia, erosive-ulcerous damages of the digestive tract and kidney damage are possible.

• Blood thinners(Warfarin)
• Propoxyphene and acetaminophen preparations
• Oxycodone and acetaminophen preparations
• Non-prescription cough,  common cold, and allergy medications
• Non-prescription menstrual  preparations
• Barbiturates
