Drug name: Brand Maxitrol

Active substance: Dexamethasone, Neomycin, Polymyxin B

Pharmacological effects: Maxitrol is a combined preparation which exerts the following effects: antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic. The preparation works by affecting the cellular membrane of the microbial cells, leading to increased inflow of metabolites and bacterial cell death. Dexamethasone is a glucocorticosteroid that works by inhibiting the release of inflammation mediators, stabilizes the cell and cellular organelle membranes, decreases the permeability of capillary walls. Nemoycin and Polymyxin are antibiotics that are effective against a wide variety of bacterial strains.

Indications: Maxitrol is indicated in treatment of:

• Superficial and profound bacterial keratitis
• Apyous bacterial conjunctivitis
• Allergic conjunctivitis, complicated by secondary infection
• Post-traumatic and post-surgical iritis
• Iridocyclitis
• Episcleritis
• Meibomitis
• Dacriocystitis
• Blepharitis
• Eye injury, included caused by chemical and other burns

Warnings and Precautions: The drugs should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Eye tuberculosis
• Acute herpes zoster
• Viral and fungal eye infections
• Chicken pox
• Purulent infections of the eyelid
• Glaucoma
• Cataract
• Infectious or traumatic eardrum perforation
• Purulent cornea ulcer

Side effects: Drugs may cause side-effects which in specific patients may manifest differently.
