Drug name: Brand Betaserc

Active substance: Betahistine

Pharmacological effects: Betahistine is a synthetic analogue of histamine. It mainly acts on internal ear and vestibular nucleus H1- and H3 histamine receptors. The drug exerts the following effects:

• Decreases the frequency and intensity of dizziness
• Decreases ear ringing
• Improves hearing
• Stimulates H1-receptors without blocking them and does not cause sedative effects

Indications: Betaserc is used in treatment of:

• Edema of internal ear labyrinth, vestibular and labyrinth disorders: dizziness, ear ringing and pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, decrease of hearing;
• Vestibular neuronitis, utriculitis,  benign positional vertigo, Meniere's disease.
• As subsidiary therapy Betahistine may be prescribed in treatment of: vertebrobasilar insufficiency, post-traumatic encephalopathy, cerebral atherosclerosis.

Warnings and Precautions: The drugs should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Chromaffinoma
• Bronchial allergy
• Gastric ulcer or duodena ulcer
• Pregnancy (I trimester)

Please consult your doctor before the use of the preparation if:

• You have gastric ulcer
• You are pregnant (II – III trimester)
• Young age

Side effects: Drugs may cause side-effects which in specific patients may manifest differently. • Dyspepsia
• Skin rash
• Angioedema
