Pharmacological effects: Atenolol belongs to a group of medicines called selective(cardioselective b1-adrenoblockers). Atenolol works by blocking beta1-adreno receptors in the blood vessels and ,thus, prevents the effects associated with adrenalin(narrowing of the blood pressure and increase in heart rate. Atenolol possesses antianginal, hypertesive and amtiarrhythmic action, lowers automatism of the sinus node, reduces the myocardium contractility, and decreases myocardium demand in oxygen. Atenolol lowers excitability of the heart tissue.

Indications: Atenolol is approved to treat the following conditions:

• High blood pressure(hypertension)
• Relieving angina attacks
• Post infarction treatment

Warnings and Precautions: Atenolol should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
•  Chronic heart failure(IIB and III stage)
• Atrioventricular blockage (II and III type)
• Sick sinus syndrome(SSS)
• Acute heart failure
• Cardiogenic shock
• Bradycardia
• Hypotension in myocardium infarction

• Children
