To help encourage Americans to take more steps towards healthier lifestyle behaviors, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and PCE Health & Fitness joined together to develop a unique contest to emphasize the importance of regular physical activity in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes and managing the disease. In support of American Diabetes Alert® Day - ADA's annual call-to-action for Americans to know their risk for diabetes -PCE Health & Fitness donated a LifeSpan TR2000 treadmill signed by the hosts of ABC's hit show, The View. During the month long contest, individuals who visited the ADA's Web site to take the online Diabetes Risk Test at diabetes.org/risktest had the opportunity to enter their name to win the signed treadmill. Los Lunas, New Mexico resident, Eileen Jezercak, was the lucky winner. Following her diagnosis with type 2 diabetes in 2000, Eileen, 50, researched and found the ADA's Web site where she received important information about diabetes. She has also been able to share her story and talk with others who have diabetes through ADA's online message boards. "When I was first diagnosed, I would not have had as much help if the ADA was not there," said Eileen. "In particular, the ADA's web site was a great place to help me get the needed information to understand diabetes and how eating right and exercising is so important in managing my diabetes."
