Dermovate (Clobetasol propionate) is a very strong topical glucocorticoid with a rapid onset of action and high systemic bioavailability. It is available in the form of cream and ointment in tubes 25 and 50 grams.
Advantages of Dermovate: fast and effectively removes all the symptoms of local allergic inflammation.
Disadvantages of Dermovate: it can only be used short term. In a long-term use, Dermovate has a strong systemic action (especially in children) and causes local adverse reactions (especially when used on the face, neck, and with occlusive bondages). In addition, Dermovate should not be used more than 50 g per week in adults, but even this dose may cause a temporary inhibition of adrenal function. Another shortcoming is the need to apply the cream 2 times a day and inability to use it in children below 12 years of age.
Side effects of Dermovate:
Local: atrophic changes in the skin, striae, thinning of the skin, persistent dilation of the surface blood vessels, pigmentation disorders, excessive body hair growth.
General - arterial hypertension, Itsenko-Cushing syndrome, steroid diabetes, growth retardation in children, increased intracranial pressure in infants, and headaches.
Overall assessment: it is not recommended to use Dermovate in children or only in extreme cases for a few days under the mandatory supervision of a specialist.
