Peritol is used to increase appetite in anorexia of different genesis. This medicine is extremely useful for those who would like to gain weight but have problems to do so.
Since Peritol promotes good appetite, you begin to eat really much that helps to gain some more kilograms. The only drawback of Peritol is that it may cause drowsiness, though it is a rare case. This side effect is due to the pharmacological nature of the drug. First of all, Peritol belongs to antihistamines which are known to cause sleepiness, dizziness and headaches. These side effects do not appear often and they are not life threating. If they are bothersome, it is better to stop using Peritol and to look for another way to gain weight.
Also, Peritol has some restrictions in the use. It must not be take by people with angle-closure glaucoma, benign prostate hyperplasia, urinary retention, predisposition to edema, the simultaneous use of MAO inhibitors, pregnancy, lactation, age below 6 months.
The main indications for Peritol are:
- allergic diseases (urticaria, hay fever, serum sickness, angioedema and others)
- skin disease (contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, eczema)
- headaches of vascular origin, e.g. migraine
- vasomotor rhinitis
- allergic reaction to drugs, blood transfusions, introduction of radio-opaque substances
- anorexia (lack of appetite) of different origins
- Peritol tablets are also used in treatment of cachexia (postinfectious state, convalescence, chronic disease, general debilitation, hyperthyroidism).
