Pain management

Pain is a physical and emotional suffering, agonizing and feeling of uneasiness. There different types of pain:

• Acute pain is determined as a short at times pain with easily identificated pain.
• Chronic pain is determined as a pain that lasts more than 6 weeks.
• Pain is divided into several groups according to the causes:
• Skin pain that is associated with skin and subdermal tissue damage
• Internal pain that occurs in the internals
• Phantom limb pain in the extremoties- feeling of pain that occur in the ablating extremities 
• Neuropathic pain or neuralgia may occur as a result of damage or disease of the nerve tissue

Pain can be relieved through a combination of medicines that help to relieve pain. There are two main groups of pain killers:

• Narcotic analgesics(Morphine, Tramadol) Narcotic analgesics stimulate the production of endorphins that reduce pain and cause the feeling of euphoria. Narcotic pain killers are indicated to relieve severe pain.
• Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAID's(ibuprofen, paracetamol, acid acetylsalicylic). These medicines exert analgesic action via inhibiting the enzyme called cyclooxygenase type 1 or cyclooxygenase type 2. By inhibiting cyclooxygenase NSAID's decrease the production of inflammatory mediators called prostoglandins. Prostoglandins work by increasing the excitability threshold of the pain receptors. NSAID's are used for the treatment and relieve of mold and moderate pain.
