Drug name: Generic Toradol

Active substance: Ketorolac

Pharmacological effects: Toradol belongs to a group of drugs called NSAID's  it expresses anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effect. The drug works by non-selectively inhibiting COX-1 and COX-2, which catalyzes the production of Pg from arachidonic acid, which plays  an important role in the pain pathogenesis, inflammation and fever.  The analgesic effect of the drug can be compared to morphine and significantly surpasses the effects of other NSAID's.

Indications: Toradol is indicated in treatment of the following conditions:

• Severe and mild pain syndrome caused by:
• Trauma
• Tooth pain
• Postnatal and post-surgical pain
• Oncology as symptomatic treatment
• Myalgia
• Arthralgia
• Neuralgia
• Radiculitis
• Joint dislocation
• Strains
• Rheumatic disease

Warnings and Precautions: The drugs should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Samter's triad
• Hypovolemia
• Erosive-ulcerous disease of the gastrointestinal tract
• Hypocoagulation
• Liver failure
• Severe renal failure
• Lactation period
• Pregnancy
• Young age under 16 years

The drug should be used with caution in:

• Bronchial asthma
• Alcoholism
• Smoking
• Cholecystitis
• Post-surgical period
• Chronic heart failure
• Edema syndrome
• Arterial hypertension
• Renal failure
• Sepsis
• Elderly age after 65 years
• Pregnancy
• Systemic Lupus Erythrematosus

Side effects: Drugs may cause side-effects which in specific patients may manifest differently. In the following paragraph we want to underline the most serious and frequent side effect of Toradol that  were identified by the drug manufacturers. The possibility of the adverse effect manifestation depends only on the individual and his specific traits. Ketorolac side effects include:

• Gastrointestinal tract: gastralgia, diarrhea, stomatitis, meteorism, constipation, vomiting, abdominal fullness, decreased appetite, nausea, gastrointestinal ulcers, jaundice, acute pancreatitis, hepatomegaly
• Urogenital system: acute liver failure, back pain, hematuria, azotemia, hemolytic-uremic syndrome, increased urination. Increase or decrease of urine volume, nephritis, renal origin edema,
• Sensory organs: decreased hearing, ear ringing, decreased vision
• Respiratory system: bronchospasm, dyspnoe, rhinitis, lung swelling, larynx swelling
• CNS: Headache, dizziness, somnolence, aseptic meningitis, hyperactivity, hallucinations, depression, psychosis, fainting
• Cardiovascular system: increased arterial pressure
• Haemopoietic organs: anemia, eosinophilia, leukopenia
• Homeostasis system: nasal bleeding, rectal bleeding, post-surgical bleeding
• Skin integument: rash, purpura, exfoliative dermatitis, hives, Steven-Johnson syndrome, Lyell's syndrome
• Allergic reactions
• Other: swelling of the extremities, increased sweating, tongue swelling, fever
