Drug name: Generic Cortizon

Active substance: hydrocortizone

Pharmacological effects: Cortizon contains the active ingredient hydrocortizone that belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. Cortizon exerts anti-inflammatory, anti-exudative, desensitizing, antipruritic, and immunosuppressive action. Hydrocortizone works by suppressing the release of inflammatory mediators called cytokinen from the lymphocytes and macrophages. Cortizon also stimulates steroid receptors, induces the production of the specific proteins called lipocortins that possess antiedemic activity.

Indications: Cortizon is approved for the treatment of the following dermatological diseases:

• Eczema
• Dermatitis(allergic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, neurodermatitis)
• Psoriasis
• Erythrosis
• Purigo
• Lichen acuminatus
• Anogenital itching
• Insect bites
• Seborrhea
• Photodermatosis

Warnings and Precautions: Cortizon should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Acne vulgaris
• Perioral dermatitis
• Infections of the skin caused by bacteria, viruses and fungi
• Ulcers and wounds
• Skin cancer
• Post vaccination period
• Children under 2 years of age(in anal itching in children under 12 years of age)
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding

The medication should be used with caution tuberculosis and diabetes

Cortizon side effects: Drugs may cause side effects which in specific patients may manifest differently. In the following paragraph we want to underline the most serious and frequent side effect of Cortizon that were identified by the drug manufacturers. The possibility of the adverse effect manifestation depends only on the individual and his specific traits.

• The most common Cortizon side effects include: irritation of the skin, skin rash, itching, redness painful sensation. In prolonged treatment systemic side effects are possible.
