Pharmacological effects: Festal is an enzymatic preparation that helps to compensate the insufficiency of the secretary function of the pancreatic gland and bile expelling function of the liver. Pancreatin is a mixture of ferments: amylase, lipase and protease that work by improving the digesting of the carbohydrates, proteins and lipids contributing to their full absorption in the small intestine.

Hemicellulase contributes to the breakdown of the fibers as well as improved digestive processes in the small intestine.

Bile components exert bile expelling action and help to emulsify lipids, improves absorption of lipids and fat soluble vitamins, increase the activity of the lipase

Indications: Festal is approved for the treatment of the following conditions:

• Insufficient function of pancreatic gland(mucoviscidosis and chronic pancreatitis)
• Chronic diseases of the stomach, liver, bowel and gall bladder
• Pancreatectomy
• Pancreatic cancer
• Schwachman syndrome

Warnings and Precautions: The drugs should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Acute pancreatitis
• Aggravation of chronic pancreatitis
• Liver failure
• Jaundice
• Cholelithiasis
• Intestinal obstruction
• Gallbladder empyema
• Patients with suspect appendicitis

Festal should be used with caution in pregnancy and breastfeeding
