Drug name: Generic Aciphex

Active substance: rabeprazole sodium

Pharmacological effects: Aciphex contains the active ingredient rabeprazole that belongs to group of medications called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It works by inhibiting the activity of the proton pump H+-K+-TP-ase that is responsible for the production of hydrochloric acid by the parietal cells in the stomach. By reducing the production of stomach acid Aciphex relives the symptoms of heartburn and GERD and prevents the irritant action of the hydrochloric acid on the stomach mucous lining.

Indications: Aciphex is approved for the treatment of the following conditions:

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
• Erosive esophagitis
• Duodenal ulcers
• Stomach and duodenal ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infections

Warnings and Precautions: Aciphex should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Serious liver diseases
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding
