Drug name: L-Thyroxin

Active substance: Levothyroxine sodium

Pharmacological effects:

After partial metabolism in kidney and liver, Thyroxin sinistrorotatory isomer affects the tissue development and growth and also stimulates metabolism. The metabolic effects' mechanisms include receptor binding with a genome, oxidative metabolism changes in the mitochondrions and also substrate and kathion flow regulation inside and outside of the cell.

When used in a small dosage, the drug possesses anabolic action. In the medium dosage it stimulates the growth and development, increases the tissues demand in oxygen, stimulates  protein, fats and carbohydrates  metabolism, increases the function of cardiovascular and central nervous systems. When used in a big dosage, L-thyroxin inhibits hypothalamus and hypophysis performance

Indications:  Levothyroxine sodium should be used when having the following diseases:

• Thyroid insufficiency of various genesis (including pregnancy period)
• Thyroid gland hormone deficiency
• Goiter backset
• Euthyroid benign goiter
• Additional thyrotoxicosis therapy by means of thyrostatic medications after achieving euthyroid condition
• Thyroid gland cancer
• Basedow's disease
• Autoimmune thyroadenitis

Warnings and Precautions: The drugs should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Adrenal cortex insufficiency
• Cardiovascular system diseases
• Diabetes, diabetes insipidus
• Thyrotoxicosis in anamnesis
• Malabsorption syndrome
• Hypophysial insuficiency
• Severe, long-term thyroid gland hypofunction
