Active Ingredients: levothyroxine sodium

Pharmacological effects:

Synthroid is a synthetic product of thyroid hormone, a thyroxine levogyrate isomer. After partial conversion to triiodothyronine (in the liver and kidneys) and transition to the body's cells, it influences the development and growth of tissues and on metabolism.

In small doses, levothyroxine sodium has anabolic effect on protein and fat metabolism. In moderate doses, it stimulates the growth and development, increases the oxygen demand of tissues, stimulates the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates, increases the functional activity of the cardiovascular system and central nervous system. In high doses, the drug inhibits the production of TTRG and TSH.

Indications:

  • Hypothyroidism
  • Euthyroid goiter
  • Replacement therapy for prevention of recurrence of goiter after thyroid gland resection
  • Thyroid cancer (after surgery)
  • Toxic goiter: after reaching the euthyroid state by thyreostatics (as a combination or monotherapy)
  • Diagnostic agent during the thyroid suppression test

Warnings and Precautions: The drugs should not be used in the following conditions:

  • Uncontrolled thyrotoxicosis
  • Uncontrolled pituitary insufficiency
  • Uncontrolled insufficiency of adrenal cortex
  • Acute heart attack
  • Acute myocarditis
  • Acute pancarditis
  • Reactions of hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
  • The medication should be used with caution in: coronary heart disease (atherosclerosis, stenocardia, heart attacks in anamnesis), arterial hypertension, arrhythmia, diabetes, malabsorption syndrome.
