Vitamins

Vitamins are chemical compounds of organic origin that are synthesized in animal and plant organism. Vitamins possess relatively simple stricture and various chemical properties. Vitamins are essential compounds that regulate and participate in many biological processes. They are important for the normal growth and development of the organism, maintain the functional condition of all organs and system of the human body.

Vitamins participate in several biochemical reactions, providing catalitic function and being a part of active centers of different enzymes. Vitamins play a role of informative regulatory intermediates, performing a signal function of prohormones and hormones. Vitamins are not the suppliers of energy and does not possess a plastic function.

There are three pathological conditions that are caused by the disorders of vitamins consumption. These are: deficiency of vitamins in the organism- hypovitaminosis, lack of vitamin- avitaminosis, excess of vitamins- hypervitaminosis.

According to the solubility, all the vitamins are divided into several groups such as Fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, F, K and water soluble vitamins: B1, B2, B6, B12, C, P, PP and others. Fat soluble vitamins are accumulated in the organism in the fat tissue and liver. Water soluble vitamins are not diposited and are excreted in overabundance.
