Drug name: Brand Angeliq

Active substance: estradiol + drospirenone

Pharmacological effects: Angeliq contains two female sex hormones estrogen- estradiol and progestin hormone drospirenone. Angeliq works by relieving the symptoms of menopause via replacing the estradiol that can not be no longer produced by the ovarium. Angeliq provides the efficient treatment of psychoemotional and vegetative climacteric symptoms like hot flashes, increased sweating, insomnia, agitation, increased heart rate, chest pain, dizziness, headache, decreased libido, muscular and articular pain.

Drosperinone is a synthestic progesterone that helps to reduces risk of cancer of the uterine mucous lining. Drosperinone also acts on aldosterone and is helpful in water retention.

Indications: Angeloq is approved to treat the following conditions:

• Hormonal replacement therapy in women with climacteric disorders in postmenopausal period, including vasomotor symptoms(hot flashes, increased sweating), sleep disorders, depressive conditions, agitation, skin changes
• Relieving itching, burning ,irritation in the vagina associated with menopause
• Prophylaxis of postmenopausal osteoporosis

Warnings and Precautions: Angeliq should not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations.
• Vaginal bleeding of unknown origin
• Hormone dependent tumor diseases
• Benign or malignant liver tumors
• Severe liver diseases
• Severe kidney diseases
• Adrenal insufficiency
• Cardiovascular diseases including heart attacks, heart failure, high blood pressure
• High cholesterol
• Epilepsy
• Migraine
• Thyroid diseases
• Smoking cigarettes
• Endometriosis
• Gallbladder disease
• Systemic lupus erythematosus
• Bronchial asthma
• Acute arterial thrombosis
• Thrombosis of the deep veins
• Hypertriglyceridemia
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Angeliq side effects: Drugs may cause side effects which in specific patients may manifest differently. The most common Angeliq side effects include: breast, back and abdominal pain, common cold symptoms, headache, vaginal bleedings, pain in arms or leg

Serious and less common Angeliq side effects include: heart attack, breast cancer, dementia, anxiety, depression, diseases of the gallbladder, ovarian cancer, increased potassium blood levels, thrombosis of the blood vessels(blood clot)
